Torre Is the Candyman; Girardi Bans Sweets

There was a recent MLB in-FanHouse discussion about the average weight of each Major League Baseball team. We batted around the idea of mentioning it to you good people, but the problem is, there seems to be reasonably little relevance to the statistical production of any of these teams.
Then, something dawned on me, given the recent news that Joe Girardi has banned candy and ice cream from the Yankees clubhouse.

Furthermore, the Journal News of Westchester County reported that the Yankees asked opposing teams to remove the offending items from the visitors’ clubhouse before the team arrives.
The irony, of course, is that the above link is from the . Why, you ask? Because two of the “fattest” teams in the bigs are the Yankees (217 pounds per player, fourth) and the Dodgers (215 ppp, fifth). Do you know the chief connection between those two teams? Joe Torre.
That’s right. Quit your laughing at Joe Girardi’s silly rules for a second and think about what your boy Andruw Jones looks like right now, right around a deuce and a half. And then think about the Yankees and Dodgers, Torre’s two teams the last two years, and how heavy they all are. Now, I’m not calling Joe Torre a bad coach. What I am doing is telling you that he has been handed so many superstars over the years that he never found it his place to constrict the diets of these athletes.
