Castro, Dodgers agree to minor league deal
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Longtime big league shortstop Juan Castro agreed Tuesday to a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

If Castro is added to the 40-man roster, he would receive a one-year deal worth $700,000 while in the majors and $81,000 while in the minors.

The deal also calls for Castro to receive $25,000 each for 300, 350 and 400 plate appearances, and $50,000 each for 450 and 500 plate appearances.

The 36-year-old Castro signed with the Dodgers in 1991 and began his major league career with them four years later. He has a .228 batting average in 984 career games with the Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles.

Castro appeared in a combined 61 games with the Reds and Orioles last season, hitting .193 with two homers and 16 RBIs, when he split time as Baltimore's starting shortstop with Alex Cintron.
