The Dodgers set a modern-day National League record by winning their 11th game in a row at home to start the season. They also moved within one victory of the modern-day record for consecutive home victories to start a season. If they can complete a two-game sweep of Arizona on Tuesday night, they will have matched the 1911 Detroit Tigers, who won their first 12 home games at Bennett Park before moving into Tiger Stadium the following year.
The Dodgers' pitching staff has posted a 2.52 ERA at home this year, and opposing teams have hit just .190 at Dodger Stadium. Meanwhile, the Dodgers themselves are hitting a cool .332 at home this year, averaging 6.8 runs a game. In fact, they have scored more runs (75) in their 11 home games than they have scored in their 16 games on the road (73), where they are averaging 4.6 runs, hitting .253 as a team and playing .500 ball (8-8).
The Dodgers' home winning streak is the longest to start a season since the Kansas City Royals won 11 in a row at home to begin the 2003 season. The previous N.L. record of 10 consecutive home wins to start a season was shared between the 1918 New York Giants, the 1970 Chicago Cubs and the 1983 Atlanta Braves, a team that was managed by Joe Torre.
"I don't even remember that," Torre said. "I remember '82, because we won 13 in a row (overall) to start the season, but I don't remember doing that in '83."
DODGERS 7, DIAMONDBACKS 2: Manny Ramirez and Andre Ethier hit back-to-back home runs off Doug Davis with two outs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to drive in four runs between the two of them. Ramirez later added an RBI double in the eighth to put the game on ice. Eric Stults pitched well enough for the Dodgers to get his third win in four decisions, going 5 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on five hits.
