Los Angeles Dodgers Notes, Quotes 2008-10-16
--RHP Chad Billingsley became the fifth pitcher in NLCS history to lose twice in a five-game series and the first since St. Louis' Matt Morris in 2002. Billingsley also became the sixth pitcher to allow at least 11 runs in an NLCS, the first since Greg Maddux allowed an NLCS-record 12 in 1989. Billingsley also walked seven batters (two intentional) in five innings during the series.

--SS Rafael Furcal became the first player in NLCS history to be charged with three errors in one game, much less in one inning. The old record for an inning by a shortstop was two, by Kevin Elster of the New York Mets in 1988 and Gene Alley of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1972. Furcal also became the first player in NLCS history to be charged with four errors in a series.

--LF Manny Ramirez's 28th career postseason home run was his 12th in the LCS. His solo shot in the sixth inning also extended his record to nine consecutive LCS games with at least one RBI. He now has 74 career RBIs in the postseason, second only to Bernie Williams' 80.

--1B James Loney had a pair of hits in Game 5 and batted .333 (10-for-30) with three doubles, one home run and eight RBI in the postseason. He batted .438 (7-for-16) in the NLCS. Loney played in 169 of the Dodgers' 170 games this season.

--RHP James McDonald continued to make a solid impression as a rookie. He pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and a walk and striking out two. McDonald pitched 5 1/3 shutout innings in the series on the heels of pitching six shutout innings in four regular-season appearances as a September call-up.

BY THE NUMBERS: 7 -- Double plays grounded into by the Dodgers in the series, tying a record for a five-game NLCS series that also had been held by the Dodgers in their five-game victory over Montreal in 1981, when the series was still best-of-five. Rookie Blake DeWitt grounded into two of them in the finale, each with runners on first and second. DeWitt also hit into an inning-ending double play in Game 4, also with runners on first and second.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I think we brought winning back to this organization. I think we turned a corner, and I think there will be more and more years that this organization will be playing this kind of important baseball in the month of October. It has been a great year." -- Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, speaking in the team's clubhouse minutes after a Game 5 loss that ended the Dodgers' first trip to the NLCS since 1988.
