--RHP Jason Schmidt, who still hasn't pitched in a major-league game since undergoing major shoulder surgery almost two years ago, is tentatively scheduled to begin a minor-league rehabilitation assignment Tuesday at high Class A Inland Empire. Schmidt reportedly has experienced improvement in both arm strength and command in recent bullpen sessions and extended-spring games. It is unclear how long his rehab will last or if he will be ready to rejoin the big club upon the conclusion of it.
--RHP Claudio Vargas, who has been on the 60-day disabled list all season with right-elbow tendinitis, is presently undergoing a fairly new treatment. It begins with the withdrawal of blood from one part of his arm. That blood is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the more platelet-rich part of the plasma, which will then be injected back into his elbow at the point of the inflammation to speed the healing. --INF Blake DeWitt will be staying in the majors for a while. Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti had said when DeWitt was promoted on Friday to take the roster spot of injured veteran Doug Mientkiewicz that a better solution might be found outside the organization, but Colletti said Wednesday he is no longer looking to make a move. The concern with DeWitt is that he might not get enough playing time in the majors to keep his development on track.
BY THE NUMBERS: .448 -- Collective on-base percentage for the Dodgers during their first homestand of the season, which saw them run the table against San Francisco and Colorado. The Dodgers scored 50 runs in the six games. As a team, they batted .367 (77-for-21) with 11 home runs.
