Dodgersclub.com | Los Angeles Dodgers News, dodgers Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --LHP Brent Leach finally made his major league debut, four days after being recalled for the first time from Class AA Chattanooga. Leach came on to pitch the ninth inning Wednesday with a seven-run lead and retired the first two batters quickly before issuing a two-out walk to Willie Harris. Leach then finished with a flourish, striking out Cristian Guzman to end the game.
--LHP Clayton Kershaw finally picked up his first win of the season Wednesday in his sixth start. Last season, when he was called to the majors for the first time, Kershaw didn't pick up his first big-league win until his 10th start. Although Kershaw clearly was struggling with his command, he still held the Nationals to one run on four hits through five innings, and he now has a 0.95 ERA at home this season (two earned runs in 19 innings). --RHP Hiroki Kuroda continued to make progress is his effort to come back from a mild left oblique strain, playing catch Tuesday without discomfort. But there still isn't a date scheduled for Kuroda to throw a simulated game, and he has to do that before he can go on a minor league rehabilitation assignment. Kuroda hasn't pitched since opening day.
--3B Casey Blake lined into a triple play to end the second inning Monday. With runners on first and second, the runners broke on a pitch that Blake lined to short, with both runners then easily doubled off. It was the first triple play the Dodgers had hit into since Aug. 4, 1991 at Houston and the first triple play at Dodger Stadium since Colorado's Kurt Abbott hit a liner back at Dodgers pitcher Darren Dreifort on June 13, 1998.
BY THE NUMBERS: 13 -- Consecutive home wins to begin the season for the Dodgers, breaking a major league record set by the 1911 Detroit Tigers.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "They call me double maniac now." -- Dodgers LF Manny Ramirez, after the April 28 win at San Francisco, a game in which he doubled in the fifth, seventh and ninth innings and scored after each of the latter two. Each of those runs came with the game tied and gave the Dodgers leads, the second one holding up for the club's only victory in the three-game series against the Giants.
