--C Russell Martin went 2-for-4 and hit his 10th home run of the season in the sixth inning, a solo shot off Marlins reliever Ryan Tucker. Martin also drove in two runs, drew a walk and stole a base. He leads all major league catchers with a .301 average and ranks fourth with 44 RBIs.
--OF Andre Ethier went 2-for-4 with two singles and a walk. Ethier has hit safely in nine of his past 11 games, batting .356 (16-for-45) with eight RBIs and six walks. He has 18 RBIs in his past 24 games. --RHP Chan Ho Park, who had been solid in three starts since replacing injured RHP Brad Penny in the rotation, struggled and was gone after four innings. Park allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits, including Marlins C John Baker's first major league home run. Park began the day with a 1.29 ERA in four starts for the season and a 2.36 ERA overall, but those numbers jumped to 2.16 and 2.63, respectively.
--LHP Hong-Chih Kuo pitched three scoreless innings behind RHP Chan Ho Park to lower his ERA to a team-best 1.69. Over his past 12 appearances beginning May 17, Kuo has allowed just two runs over 27 1/3 innings, good for a 0.66 ERA. He has allowed only two runs all season at home.
--RHP Ethan Martin, the Dodgers' first-round pick in last month's draft, agreed on a $1.73 million signing bonus and will report to the rookie-level Gulf Coast League next week. Martin, a good-hitting shortstop at Stephens County (Ga.) High School, took batting practice on the field before the game, with manager Joe Torre and former manager Tommy Lasorda watching. With acting bullpen coach Jim Slaton pitching, Martin hit four balls out of the park.
--1B/OF Mark Sweeney (strained right hamstring) went 2-for-4 Thursday in the first game of a rehab assignment with Class AAA Las Vegas. He has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 4.
BY THE NUMBERS: 12 -- Runs scored by the Dodgers in the first innings of their past nine road games, seven of which have been victories. The Dodgers have scored in the first inning of all but one of those nine games, outscoring their hosts 12-5 in the process. The only game in which they didn't score in the first inning was on July 4 at San Francisco, a game in which they otherwise exploded for 10 runs. Overall, the Dodgers are outscoring their opponents 64-45 in the first.
