Los Angeles Dodgers Notes, Quotes 2008-08-30
--2B Jeff Kent left the game after six innings with pain in his left knee. He will be sent for an MRI on Saturday but for now is listed as day-to-day. Kent is hitless in his past 12 at-bats and has five hits in his past 32 at-bats since being given the day off on Aug. 21.

--RHP Jason Schmidt started and pitched one inning on a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas against Colorado Springs. Schmidt allowed no runs, no hits and one walk. He will pitch another inning on Monday for the 51s, then possibly be activated as a reliever for the season's final month.

--RHP Scott Proctor followed Jason Schmidt to the mound and pitched two scoreless innings for Las Vegas. Proctor allowed one hit and no walks while striking out four. He is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Monday.

--CF Andruw Jones, who is hitting .261 (6 for 23) with three homers and eight RBI on his current rehab assignment with Las Vegas, is expected to be activated on Monday. Jones is playing first base because of knee pain he has felt since stepping in a hole in the outfield several days ago. But he is expected to play center field before rejoining the big club.

--1B James Loney is batting a Ted Williams-like .406 (41 for 101) for his career against Arizona after going 1 for 4 on Friday night. That is the highest batting average of any opposing player in the 11-year history of the Diamondbacks. Ty Wigginton is second at .396.

BY THE NUMBERS: .179 -- Collective batting average for the Dodgers from the seventh inning on last week, a stretch during which they had 12 hits in 67 at-bats and scored only two runs on a solo homer by James Loney and an RBI single by Jeff Kent. Before Sunday, they had only two runners in scoring position during those innings, both of which came when they loaded the bases with two outs on Tuesday night against Colorado and failed to score.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Obviously, I'm not as strong or as durable as I once was. It's not easy for me to go out there and throw 120 or 130 pitches anymore. But you have to go out there and play with what you've got and hopefully give your team a good six or seven innings, then let everybody else do their thing after that." -- Greg Maddux, the Dodgers' newly acquired pitcher, when asked what he has left at age 42.
