Dodgersclub.com | Los Angeles Dodgers News, dodgers Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --RHP Chad Billingsley suffered his first defeat in 12 regular-season starts, his previous one having come Aug. 25, 2008 at Philadelphia. Billingsley did go 0-2, giving up 11 runs in a total of five innings, in two starts against the Phillies in last year's National League Championship Series. Billingsley also lost to the Giants for the first time in 13 career appearances and nine career starts, falling to 4-1 with a 3.28 ERA against them.
--2B Orlando Hudson failed to get a hit in a home game for the first time this season, going 0-for-2 with two walks and two strikeouts. Hudson had hit .444 (24-for-54) in the Dodgers' first 14 home games this season, including hitting safely in each of them. Hudson, the only Dodgers player to have started every game this season, also saw his nine-game overall hitting streak snapped. --3B Casey Blake fell a home run shy of hitting for the cycle Thursday, although his first-inning triple was a gift because a routine flyball fell when Nationals OFs Elijah Dukes and Adam Dunn converged with each apparently thinking the other would catch it. Blake didn't have an extra-base hit in any of his nine previous games. The three hits were one more than he had in his previous six games, when he went 2-for-15.
MEDICAL WATCH:
LHP Hong-Chih Kuo (left elbow strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 30.
RHP Hiroki Kuroda (strained left oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list April 11. He played catch without discomfort May 5, but he had yet to be scheduled for a rehab start.
RHP Jason Schmidt (right shoulder surgery) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 30. He was still pitching in extended spring training as of early May, but he might start a rehab assignment during the weekend of May 8-10.
RHP Claudio Vargas (right elbow tendinitis) went on the 60-day disabled list retroactive to April 6. He might return as soon as he's eligible.
INF Doug Mientkiewicz (dislocated right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 17, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 30. He had surgery April 20, and he is unlikely to return before September.
