--RHP Hiroki Kuroda threw a 30-pitch bullpen before the game Friday. He is tentatively scheduled to throw a simulated game Monday at Dodger Stadium, after which he could begin a minor-league rehabilitation assignment. Kuroda hasn't pitched since opening day because of a mild strain of his left oblique muscle.
--OF Xavier Paul hit his first career home run, a pinch-hit shot off Chris Volstad in the top of the sixth. Paul is now hitting .600 (3-for-5) in the majors since he was called up for the first time to take Manny Ramirez's roster spot. All five of Paul's at-bats have come in a pinch-hitting role. --3B Casey Blake slammed his team-leading eighth home run off Chris Volstad leading off the sixth inning. Blake also doubled in the third, the Dodgers' only hit off Volstad through the first five innings. Blake now has a five-game hitting streak, during which he is batting .526 (10-for-19), and he has scored 11 runs in his past 11 games.
--LHP Eric Milton was scheduled to make his first start for the Dodgers on Saturday night at Florida, his first major-league appearance in almost two years because of Tommy John surgery. Milton's addition to a rotation that already includes Eric Stults, Randy Wolf and Clayton Kershaw gives the Dodgers four left-handers in their rotation for the first time since 1986. At one point in September of that year, the Dodgers started lefties Fernando Valenzuela, Dennis Powell, Rick Honeycutt and Jerry Reuss in consecutive games.
MEDICAL WATCH:
LHP Hong-Chih Kuo (left elbow strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 30.
RHP Hiroki Kuroda (strained left oblique) went on the 15-day disabled list April 11. He threw a bullpen session May 12, but he remained at least a week away from making a rehab start.
RHP Jason Schmidt (right shoulder surgery) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 30. He was still pitching in extended spring training as of early May. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Inland Empire on May 12.
RHP Claudio Vargas (right elbow tendinitis) went on the 60-day disabled list retroactive to April 6. He might return as soon as he's eligible.
INF Doug Mientkiewicz (dislocated right shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list April 17, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 30. He had surgery April 20, and he is unlikely to return before September.
